Description
Coinbase was founded in 2012 by Brian Armstrong, a former software engineer at Airbnb, and Fred Ehrsam, a former Goldman Sachs trader. The company started as a cryptocurrency exchange. Over the years, however, it has added more services, and payment check processing is one of them. Coinbase is registered in the United States as a money service business.
Coinbase raised nearly $500 million as a private company through several funding rounds from venture capital firms, including Andreessen Horowitz, Union Square Ventures, Ribbit Capital, Tiger Global Management, and Greylock Partners. In 2021, the company went public and it trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol COIN.
Regarding paycheck processing, Coinbase is one of the few that can be categorized as a business-to-consumer (B2C) crypto payroll company. As an employer, you can have your paycheck deposited directly into Coinbase. To do so, you need to set up direct deposit to your Coinbase account and share those details with your employer. The funds can get to you in your preferred cryptocurrency or dollars.
